MOUNTAIN BIKE TOUR ITINERARY

THT/ADV: 04 – Mountain Bike Tour

Day 01 - Reception at NJP rail station / Bagdogra airport. Transfer to Hotel in Siliguri. Day free. Evening briefing by our members about the mountain biking program. Overnight at Siliguri.

Day 02 - After breakfast start for Mirik. On your way you will be traveling through some of the best natural forests and tea gardens of the region. The total distance to be covered is 52 km. The first half of the biking is through Terai plains. This would help you adjust before taking on the mighty Himalayas. Last 20 km to Mirik is through relatively steep hill roads. Reach Mirik in the evening. Overnight at Mirik.

Day 03 - Today you will bike to Darjeeling. The road passes through the Nepal Border and has beautiful tea gardens on both sides. The distance to be covered is 49km through relatively less inclined hilly roads. On the way you may take a break at Jorpokhri to visit the local Salamander project. Himalayan Salamander is a rare reptile which might be seen in the wild here. Reach Darjeeling in the evening. Overnight at Darjeeling.

Day 04 – The road from Darjeeling to Jorthang mostly slopes downward. Part of the road is pebbled and not in great shape. The distance to be covered today is 80 km.

Day 05 – Today you will be biking to the erstwhile capital of Sikkim. Pelling is 40 km biking away from Reshi but the road is steep and will take some hard work to reach. Pelling is also known for the beautiful views it provides to the Kanchanjunga range of mountains.

Day 06 - Rest day at Pelling. You may go to local places of interest such as the Pemayngtse Monastery.

Day 07 – Biking to Ravangla today. First part of the journey is downward up to Legship, from legship you will be moving up. The total distance to be covered today is 52 km. This drive is the longest one for the tour.

Day 08 – Ravangla / Singtam. (36 km)

Day 09 - Singtam – Gangtok. Today’s drive is to Gangtok the capital of Sikkim. The total distance is 29 km out of which the last 12 km is steep.

Day 10 – Gangtok has many attractions for the tourists. Rumtek monastery is just one of them. The day will be spending in Gangtok in rest or visiting local tourist interests.

Day 11 – You will be Biking through the main national highway connecting Gangtok to the rest of the country today. For most part of the drive the road is inclined slightly downwards. On your right you will find river Teesta the most important river of the region. A drive of 36 km would take you to Rangpo where you will spend the night.

Day 12 – A 40 km drive from Rangpo leads to Kalimpong. This small town is one of the oldest trade links between India and Tibet. The local market can be an interesting place for you to collect some souvenirs.

Day 13– 35 km away from Kalimpong is the upcoming tourist village of Lava. This is your next destination. Lava is close to the Neora Valley national Park and is famous for its pristine beauty, welcoming people and leeches.

Day 14 – Today we will leave the hills and move for the plains again. A 40 km drive away is the village of Gorubhathan. This is where you will spend the night.

Day 15 – 65 km from Gorubhathan through the Dooars plains is Siliguri. Much of the road is through forests including the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. Overnight at Siliguri.

Day 16 – Depart Siliguri as per onward, return journey schedule. We would drop you to the Airport / Rail station as per your convenience at End of The Tour.

 

THT/ADV: 05 – Mountain Bike Tour

Day 01 Arrival in Siliguri. Rest and preparation for the tour. Overnight at Siliguri.

Day 02 - Start for Mirik (52 km) early in the day. The days biking involves climbing an elevation of about 4000 ft. through the winding roads and lush green tea gardens on the rolling hill slope. Check in at Hotel and free evening for strolling around the lake.

Day 03 - Mirik – Darjeeling (49km, 6500 ft). The route goes via Nepal border town of Pasupati. You may take a break at Sukiapokhri and visit the Salamander project there. The last 10 km to Darjeeling involves downhill biking. (ONH: Darjeeling).

Day 04 - Today you will bike to Mongpu (30 km, 4000 ft). You will be passing through beautiful ridges of Himalaya to reach Mongpu. In the afternoon you can go for a visit to the local cinchona plantation. Overnight at Mongpu.

Day 5 - Cycle to Kalimpong (4300 ft). The distance is about 40 km. Except for the last 16 km, there is little elevation on the road. Overnight at Kalimpong.

Day 6 - The cycling consists of traveling to Lava (7200 ft, 32 km). Although the change in altitude is quite significant, there are few high inclinations on the road. Overnight at lava.

Day 7 - Today we will leave the hill and come down to Dooars plains. The destination is Mongpong, a nice forest bungalow on the banks of River Teesta. You have to cycle a total distance of 70 km. But the first 35 km of it is downhill and the remaining part is through the plains. The distance can be covered by biking for about 5-6 hours approximately.

Day 8 - Return to Siliguri (25 km) after a couple of hours biking. End of The Tour at Siliguri.

THT/ADV: 06 – Mountain Bike Tour

Day 1- Arrival at Bagdogra airport and transfer to Gangtok by vehicle. Check in hotel and relax. Preparation for next day biking. Travel time is about 5 hours and distance covered 125 Km.

Day 2 - Today you start your biking as your bike to Singhik (70 km, 7 hours biking). You will be biking through NH31A and passing through Phodong to reach Singhik (altitude 5,500 feet). The biking surface is moderately uphill. Road traffic would mostly consist of Army and Tourist vehicles. Overnight stay at Singhik.

Day 3 – Today you will be biking to Lachung from Singhik. The route here continues to follow the National Highway and it is moderately uphill. On the way you will pass through Chungthang. Lachung at an altitude of 8,600 feet is the base from where visitors go to Yumthang Valley Today total distance covered by you will be about 55 Km and the biking time would be about 5 Hours.

Day 4 – Today you will visit the Yumthang valley and return to stay at Lachung overnight. Yumthang is also called the valley of flowers and is located at an altitude of 12000 ft. You will reach this height Biking to Yumthang Valley of flowers and Camp overnight 12000ft. Road condition – mixed surface with gentle climb. Traffic movement – moderate

Day 5 – Bike to Lachen from Lachung. You will follow river Lachung Chu to bike down to Chungthang at the confluence of rivers Lachen Chu and Lachung Chu. From Chungthang you will follow Lachen Chu upstream to reach Lachen (9000ft). The small tourist village is the base for your next day travel to Thangu. You can expect a mix of smooth and rough surface with moderate downhill till Chungthang and Steep climb till Lachen. Traffic movement is limited with mostly Indian army vehicles and tourist vehicles on the road. Total distance covered 55 Km time taken approximately 5 Hours.

Day 6 – The days highlight is a trip to Thangu and Chopta Valley (13200 ft). Biking to high altitude vallyes at Chopta and Thangu (13,200 ft), Camp Overnight at Thangu. Road climbs steep uphill till Thangu. Few vehicles on the road accept some army and tourist vehciels. You have to travel about 30 Km in 3 Hours.

Day 7 – Today you will bike down to Singhik. Total distance is about 95 km and the drive is mostly downhill. You will be coming down from an altitude of about 13200 ft to just 5000 ft.

Day 8 - Singhik to Rumtek via Dikchu. The road condition is smooth except in some small stretches. Rumtek at an altitude of about 4500 ft is the most important monastery in Sikkim. Traffic movement is low as this is not the common route. Total distance would be about 60 km travel duration about 6 hours.

Day 9 - Rumtek to Bagdogra by car. Drop at Bagdogra airport 125 km 4 hours. Tour ends at Bagdogra.

THT/ADV: 07 – Mountain Bike Tour

Day 1 – Arrival at Bagdogra airport and transfer to hotel in Siliguri. Check your gear; meet other team members of the tour. Overnight at Siliguri Hotel.

Day 2 – Morning start biking to Kurseong. Total distance covered about 40 km in 4 hours. You will be travelling mostly through the plains of Terai till reaching the foothills at Rohini. The last 15 km is ascent where you will be climbing about 4000 feet. Overnight at Kurseong.

Day 3 – Today you will Biking to Darjeeling. The distance is about 36 km and time required 3 hours. You will be climbing about 4000 feet today but the climb is gradual. Overnight at Darjeeling.

Day 4 – Biking to Jorethan in Sikkim. The total distance covered would be about 80 km. The first phase till Ghoom is gradual uphill, from Ghoom to Teesta downhill, then from Teesta the rest of the route is almost horizontal, Overnight stay near Jorethang.

Day 5 – Biking to Pelling from Jorethang, the total distance is about 45 km. The route till Legship does not have much incline; the last few kilometers between Legship Pelling require uphill biking.

Day 6 – The day is spending visiting Pelling and its surrounding area.

Day 7 – Today you will Cycle to Yuksom via Khechiopalri Lake (About 40 km). The route is mostly downhill drive. Overnight at  Yuksum.

Day 8 – Bike to Ravangla via Legship. Ravangla is a small hamlet with excellent view of mountains. Overnight at a resort at Ravangla.

Day 9 – Today you will cycle to Gangtok via Singtam. Till Singtam the road would be downhill and then mostly uphill till it reaches Gangtok. Total distance about 70 km. Overnight stay at Gangtok.

Day 10- Cycle to Kalimpong. Stay overnight at Kalimpong.

Day 11- Cycle to Siliguri. Overnight at Siliguri at Siliguri.

Day 12- Drive back to Bagdogra Airport for onward return journey.
